Remove any stumbling block and possible hazard from your house. Taking precausions against hazards on your property is a miztvah. If one bears this in mind and sees to any repairs etc., then he fulfills this mitzvah each time he ensures that his home is safe.
“If you build a new house, you shall make a fence for your roof, so that you will not place blood in your house if a fallen one falls from it.” – Deuteronomy 6:5
The Torah commandment refers, specifically, to erecting a railing aroung your roof (when used like a balcony). Rabbinically, this mitzvah extends to all hazards.
Sefer Chareidim writes that whenever you have in mind that have repaired or taken precautions against any hazard in your home you are continually accredited with this mitzvah.
